Configuring OAuth parameters for data sources integrated using Data Import

You can use MicroStrategy Web to import data from different data sources, such as an Excel file, a table in a database, the results of a Freeform SQL query, or other data sources, into MicroStrategy metadata, with minimum project design requirements. The following data sources require you to configure an OAuth connection between your third-party data source and MicroStrategy Web:

Dropbox
Google Analytics
Google BigQuery
Google Drive
Facebook
Salesforce.com
Twitter

Your Administrator must configure an OAuth connection between your third-party data source and MicroStrategy Web to make these data sources available for import. Steps to do so are included in the Installation and Configuration Guide as part of deploying MicroStrategy Web.

With the data source available through Data Import, you must also define the OAuth parameters for the connection, as described in the steps below.

Prerequisite

You must have the Set OAuth Parameters for Cloud App sources privilege.

To configure OAuth parameters for data sources integrated using Data Import

1 On the Web home page, click Access External Data Add External Data icon. If you are on a folder page, click Create on the icon bar on the left, and then click Access External Data. The Connect to Your Data page opens.
2 Hover your cursor over the data source to configure OAuth parameters for, and then click Set OAuth Parameters. A dialog box to configure the OAuth parameters is displayed.
3 Provide the following information:
Callback URL: Type the MicroStrategy Web URL you used above to configure MicroStrategy Web as a remote access application in your data source. The possible URLs are:
For MicroStrategy Web (ASP.NET) deployments:

https://WebServer/WebApplicationName/asp/Main.aspx?evt=3172&src=Main.aspx.3172
For MicroStrategy Web (JSP) deployments:

https://WebServer:PortNumber/WebApplicationName/servlet/mstrWeb?evt=3172&src=mstrWeb.3172

In the example URLs above:

WebServer is the full domain name of your web server that is hosting MicroStrategy Web. Ensure that you use the full domain name rather than using an IP address, as using an IP address can require re-authentication when making the connection.
PortNumber is the port number of your web server.
WebApplicationName is the name of the MicroStrategy Web application. The default name for the MicroStrategy Web application is MicroStrategy.
Client ID: Type the Client ID acquired by configuring MicroStrategy Web as a remote access application in your data source.
Client Secret: Type the Client Secret acquired by configuring MicroStrategy Web as a remote access application in your data source.
4 Click OK to save the OAuth parameter changes.
