Editing, deleting, renaming, or duplicating a database connection

To edit a database connection

Prerequisite

You must have the Create and Edit Database Instances and Connections and Create and Edit Database Logins privileges to modify a database connection.
1 On any page, click Create on the icon bar on the left, then select Access External Data. Click Database. The Select Import Options dialog box opens.
2 Select one of the following:
To select single or multiple tables to import data from, select Pick Tables.
To use a graphical interface to build the SQL query to use to import your data, select Build a Query.
To manually type or paste a query to import your data, select Type a Query.
3 Hover the cursor over the name of the database connection to edit, then click the arrow icon. A pop-up menu is displayed. Click Edit. The Data Source dialog box opens.
4 Edit the database connection by providing the appropriate details for the type of connection you want to define, such as the database management system (DBMS), and the login name and password to use to connect to the database. The information required may vary depending on the specific type of database connection to edit. For a detailed list of the information required for each database type, see the MicroStrategy Installation and Configuration Guide.
5 Click OK to save your changes.

To delete a database connection

Prerequisite

You must have the object permissions required to delete the database connection.
1 Navigate to any folder page, such as Shared Reports or My Reports.
2 From the navigation bar on the left, click Create, then select Access External Data. Click Database. The Select Import Options dialog box opens.
3 Select one of the following:
To select single or multiple tables to import data from, select Pick Tables.
To use a graphical interface to build the SQL query to use to import your data, select Build a Query.
To manually type or paste a query to import your data, select Type a Query.
4 Hover the cursor over the name of the database connection to delete, then click the arrow icon. A pop-up menu is displayed. Click Delete. A confirmation message is displayed.
5 Click Yes. The connection is deleted.

To rename a database connection

Prerequisite

You must have the object permissions required to rename the database connection.
1 Navigate to any folder page, such as Shared Reports or My Reports.
2 From the navigation bar on the left, click Create, then select Access External Data. Click Database. The Select Import Options dialog box opens.
3 Select one of the following:
To select single or multiple tables to import data from, select Pick Tables.
To use a graphical interface to build the SQL query to use to import your data, select Build a Query.
To manually type or paste a query to import your data, select Type a Query.
4 Hover the cursor over the name of the database connection to rename, then click the arrow icon. A pop-up menu is displayed. Click Rename.
5 Type the new name in the Please Enter Name field, then click OK. The connection is renamed.

To duplicate a database connection

Prerequisite

You must have the object permissions required to duplicate the database connection.
1 Navigate to any folder page, such as Shared Reports or My Reports.
2 From the navigation bar on the left, click Create, then select Access External Data. Click Database. The Select Import Options dialog box opens.
3 Select one of the following:
To select single or multiple tables to import data from, select Pick Tables.
To use a graphical interface to build the SQL query to use to import your data, select Build a Query.
To manually type or paste a query to import your data, select Type a Query.
4 Hover the cursor over the name of the database connection to duplicate, then click the arrow icon. A pop-up menu is displayed. Click Duplicate. The duplicate connection is automatically created and displayed in the Database Connections panel.
